W. Ostrowski, like A. Gawiński, whose lost Landscape of 1911, originally hung in the hall, his education began in the W. Gerson School of Drawing in Warsaw and continued in the years 1895 to 1901 in the workshops of F. Cynk, J. Malczewski, Axentowicz T. and L. Wyczółkowski in the Academy of Fine Arts. After a stay in Munich, the paths of these two artists parted ways. Gawiński went to Italy, and Ostrowski to Paris, where he studied for a year at the Akadémie Julian. Prior to 1905, artist spent some time in Podole at Turczyńscy and in Tokarówka in Ukraine. From 1907 to about 1930 he lived in Warsaw, later moved to Grodzisk Mazowiecki. From 1915 to 1939 he was a member of the TZSP, in which he often exhibited. From the initial fascination with the subject of battle scenes, he went in the direction of landscape and portrait painting. Many of his landscape studies was created during his stay in Kresy and holidays spent in Tatra Mountains.
