This small landscape is a good example of the artist's paintings after 1874, when under the influence of studies in Munich and close contacts with A. KOTSIS and Fr. Streitt, he departed from created at the threshold of his career, after graduation in Vienna, a large academic figure compositions and portraits. Near the woods is a typical Munich composition with the dominant in the foreground clearing recognized on one side with a wall of the forest, on the other hand passing in opening up far, lowland view, over which is the blue sky. The whole is maintained in a warm, uniform, characteristically dim tone which provides moody overtones of the image, revived only by abandoned, colorful trinkets, suggesting the presence of someone. Anecdotal layer of the work deviates slightly from melancholic and often sad nature of the "Munchenians" painting, approaching a more affirmative approach to the reality of the French realists.
