M. Wywiorski after resigning from chemistry studies at the Technical University of Riga has taken ​​in 1883-87 study of painting in the workshops of K. Raupp and N. Gysisa and J. Brandt and A. Wierusz-Kowalski at the Munich Academy. After leaving Munich, he lived for some time in Berlin and Poznań. In addition to landscapes, represented in the gallery, Wywiórski also painted scenes of hunting and participated in the creation of trendy at the turn of the century panoramas, to name just painted together with J. Fałat, W. Kossak, A. Piotrowski and J. Stanislavsky in 1895 Berezina, or Napoleon at the Pyramids of 1901, realized together with W. Kossak, J. Ryszkiewicz and K. Rozwadowski. Execution of the latter and preparation for the unfinished Samosierra was preceded by a joint expedition of the artist to Egypt and Spain with W. Kossak. Visiting these countries has perhaps prompted Wiewiorski for use in Bank of the pond, painted after his return, unusual colors which he could encounter there.
